About the Artist

Ezekiel Madiba (born 1948) is a South African printmaker born in Eastwood, Pretoria. He began drawing at fourteen and learned art at Lethabong Secondary School in Walmanstal. After holding several jobs, he began working professionally as an artist in 1971 and worked alongside Isaac Nkoana, David Phoshoko and Eric Lubisi.

The composition depicts a gathering of individuals assembled for discussion, emphasising the importance of dialogue, cooperation and shared decision-making within communal life. Rather than focusing on a single protagonist, the work highlights the collective, presenting the meeting as a space where relationships are built, concerns are voiced and social bonds are strengthened.
